It had been a while since I ran a road race and Eric and I were talking and I think it was on Tuesday we decided to give this one a try.
So early Saturday morning we headed downtown to Old National Bank to get registered for the run. Because I waited to register until the day of you usually pay a little more, but I was pleasantly surprised when they said they were waving the late fee :) After I got my goodies we headed out to stretch out and get warmed up.
They had a mile run/walk before the 5k and right at the start of the mile it started in rain pretty hard. Now it wasn't that we didn't the rain because we have been in a drought here but I was hoping it would lighten up when the 5k started.
Luckily it had stopped before we got started but after we started a nice light drizzle would have been ok. It was a very hot and humid morning and I think about a half mile into the race everyone looked pretty sweaty. It was nice that it was stayed cloudy throughout the run so we didn't have the sun beating down on us.
I had a goal of going out a little harder then I usually do and still have a strong finish. Even with the heat I was able to accomplish those two goals. It seemed that the chips..usually for a bigger race they are "chipped timed" which means you have a chip on your shoe and when you pass the mat at the start it starts your time and when you cross the mat at the finish line it records your time. But many of the chips didn't record, which mine was one of them. I have a good idea of what my time was but not exact but we were happy with what it probably was ;)
