Thomas birthday

Thomas had a pretty busy birthday. With it also being the last day of school our day was kinda crazy.
Here is my now six year old. It is amazing how fast they grow. Birthday's at this age are always pretty exciting this year was no exception. With six being his favorite number was was very happy to be six.
We had a simliar agenda with Thomas as with Sup so when we got home from ice cream he was able to open his gifts.
I guess we had giant stuffed animal this year with the boys, I'll take one big animal to pick up then a lot of smaller toys to pick up;) Thomas got a giant shark, named him Jaws. He is probably the only kid (or person) that I know that was more upset with Jaws being killed in the blockbuster movie the end then the people being attacked.
Thomas is a big meat eater so it was no surprise that he want a big steak for his birthday. He also had green pancakes, strawberries and blueberries.
Thomas wanted a shark cake so this was my attempt. The big ones are chocolate molds and we were also able to find some smaller plastic ones. With a crazy day and the little time I had to put the cake together it was not too bad. And most important Thomas thought it was great so if he was happy that was good for me :)

Last day of Kindergarten

The year went by pretty quickly I think for both Thomas and myself. The last day of school was pretty busy for us as it was also Thomas' birthday.
Each year on the last day of school they host a field day for all the grades. Thomas was pretty excited to try put the events they had planned. They have all the grades going at different times in the day, but it was nice that the kindergarten was first in the morning.
Thomas was picked for running and the water ballon toss, but because they needed some extra kids for the tug-of-war he was able to participate in all three. Thomas had a class full of girls this year so the tug-of-war was a little bit of a challenge but they did well and was very well supervised.
The ballon toss didn't go over so well for him. He was able to toss it pretty well to his partner, but when it was tossed back to him it hit him right in the face and broke open and got his face all wet. He tried to hold a brave face and his teacher was quicker to getting to him then myself because I had Sup. But she got him all cleaned up and he was feeling fine after a few minutes.
We all met him at the bus for his last day and we were all proud that he finished his first year. His teacher said that he was a great kid and loved having him in her class. He was more then ready for first grade!
Just like with Sup on his last day, we all went over to orange leaf to celebrate his last day :) and doing so well this year.

School field trip

The last week of school all the kindergarten classes have a chance to to take a trip to the zoo. We have a smaller zoo here in Evansville and it has a nice variety of animals to see.
This field trip all the parents were invited to go with their child, so I took the opportunity to go with Thomas. All the parents met at the front gate of the zoo found their class and their child. Thomas is alway easy to spot so I found him and his teacher quickly.
Of course not all the parents were able to come with so along with Thomas I was in charge of one other little boy from his class. With all my time in primary being in charge of just one other little boy for a couple of hours was no problem. We all had a meeting place and time to come back to and we were free to take the kids around the zoo and see all the animals.
We had plenty of time to see everything with out rushing and Thomas loved seeing all the animals. It seems the most popular among most of the kids was the lion. It was a fun morning for us and Thomas was excited that I was able to come along with him :)

Lots of strawberries

This year we were able to a lot of strawberries out of our bed. I think this I the third year so we were able to get a nice crop.
Last year we had trouble with the birds but with the net we didn't have them eating our berries so it was nice to see them doing well. A few days before Thomas was done with school we picked a nice batch. It was the first of the season so they were pretty eager.
We have wanted to make jam in the past but never really go enough to make a batch. But this year we were able to get a lot and our freezer has a nice amount of strawberry jam.
The boys were able to pick out the best ones they wanted and headed to the porch to enjoy their homegrown snack. It didn't take them long to inhale the sweet berries and were soon finding the way back to the strawberry bed :)

Sup turns 4!

Sup is getting to the age where he really starts to get excited about events like birthdays and holidays. He couldn't wait until he turned four. To him his birthday just couldn't come soon enough.
As tradition I always like to get a birthday morning pictures. He knew it was his birthday and was waiting as patiently as a now four year can to get his birthday picture. It is kinda hard to see him growing up.
We had a dilemma on when we wanted to open presents but with Daddy's schedule and family in Germany we opened them before dinner. Sup was very good at opening each gift one by one and thanking each person for it.
We had skype on the computer so that some of our family watch Sup open his gifts, so you can see cousin Jared in the back on the computer :) This year with the trip to the aquarium we went with one gift for Sup to open on his birthday. Eric found this big stuffed alligator and thought it would be perfect for Sup. I didn't realize how big it was until he opened it. He was pretty impressed.
As with every birthday, they get to chose what they what to eat for dinner that day. I must say Sup was a pretty easy boy to please. He wanted hot dogs, cheese, pineapple, blueberries, and strawberries. I very easy meal for mommy to make! He also got his big blue birthday plate to put his special meal on. I think he was more excited about the plate then the food on it!
We had an alligator themed cake for his love of alligators. Eric found some alligator molds so the cake was not to bad to decorate either. Not that there are blue alligators but it is Sup's favorite color, so he had  a big blue alligator in the middle and baby green alligators in the pond around him.
When it was time for bed he said that he "had the best birthday ever!!" So I would say we were pretty successful with making him a special day. Al (the giant alligator) goes everywhere with him and has to be on his bed with him every night. And I have to be sure to tuck both of them in at night, because we don't want Al getting cold ;)

Newport Aquarium

Just before the boys' birthday, Eric and I wanted to take the boys on a fun little adventure for their birthdays. We have all been to the aquarium before but Sup was so little I am not sure he really remembered much.
Now that they are a little bit older and can appreciate the animals more we thought it would be a fun place to take them. We were able to get a pretty good deal out of it so that was a nice bonus :)
We stayed in the Cincinnati area the night before so we were able to get to the aquarium right as it opened. They have a few stations were you can feel different kinds of marine life. Amazingly Thomas was a lot more willing to touch them them Sup.
If I remember right these were spider crabs. They really had a nice area where creatures from deep in the ocean. But I think this was there favorite one, we had all day so we let them look and talk about them as long as they wanted.
Of course for Sup the biggest attraction was the alligator section. They had a large variety of them and the big one in the back was a lot of fun to watch through the glass. It was nice because he was a pretty active little guy and the boys have a lot of fun watching him move around. We actually had to visit this part of the aquarium twice.

Sup's last day of school

Sup had a really fun time this past school year in his 3 year old program. His last day was in the middle of May. It worked out nice because he was all wrapped up with school so I could do some of Thomas' end of the school year stuff.
His teachers said that he did really well and would have no problems with doing to the preschool program in the fall. On his last day he gave his each of his teachers a vase with flowers in them to thank them for all their hard work.
Daddy was able to come with us to pick him up on his last day and we wanted to do something special for him so we headed to Orange Leaf. He was pretty excited for his orange frozen yogurt ;)

A special treat

Amazingly there is one treat I never made before.. chocolate covered strawberries. So one night for a special treat I decided to give them a try.
They were rather simple to do and we were pretty impressed on how they turned out.
Sup being himself, ate the treat a little unconventional. He ate all the chocolate around the strawberry and then ate the berry.
Thomas on the other hand loved the whole thing. Between Him and Daddy they were able to finish up the batch.
