Our new garden

We have had some abnormally warm weather these past few weeks so we took the opportunity to put our new garden in.
For the last couple of months Eric and I have been thinking about how we wanted to do a better and more efficient garden this year. After doing some brainstorming, research and talking with a few other people we decided to go ahead and do a raised garden bed.
Since we have a smaller yard and space is a little bit of a challenge. With the raised bed it seems that the yield of the veggies is higher and since we can't plant as much with a smaller yard we thought we would give it a try.
We took the corner of our yard and Eric built the sides for the garden. It was a good place because we never really used it for much and the ground wasn't really great. Since we were putting in our own dirt it didn't make a difference.
It took a lot of work to get all the dirt in and mixed around. To save money and know what we were putting in as far as the soil was concerned we bought the different bags and mixed it all together. After a couple of trips we had all our dirt and in a few days we had our soil all ready for our plants.
The boys really had a fun time with the dirt...no surprise. Since we don't use any chemicals we did have to worry about any of that. But we didn't want them to get to use to playing in the garden because once we planted we did want them running around playing in the dirt. So after all the dirt was mixed the rule was no more playing in the garden. So far they have been pretty good.... although our Sup may have needed a reminder or two ;)
