Hiking in the Arches

We were up early so that we could get started on our day. After breakfast we packed up and headed to see the Arches. Thomas was glued to the window and loved looking at all the "big rocks".

After driving to the trail head to the Delicate Arch we loaded up with water and decided to take the hike to see the famous arch. We thought it might be better to leave Sup with Gramma because it was going to be a two plus mile hike. Sup did not like the idea at all and let everyone know that was at the trail head, so Papa took him out and gave him a ride, just for a few minutes and then wanted to walk.

Thomas was so excited to get out and walk and take a hike in the big rocks. He was running here and there and exploring and happy to be on a new adventure.

Despite the ton of rocks that were all over Thomas wanted to stop and look and point out just about every rock we came across. The one was one of the "really huge rocks!"

Probably the hardest part of the trail was the big slopping rock. Both of the boys did really well on the hike and didn't seem to be bothered by the heat or the hiking. And yes that is Thomas wearing a long sleeve shirt and it was probably around 90 degrees.

Along the trails they have these trail markers that are stacks of rocks. The boys seen these and were so impressed with them and thought they were so neat that they wanted to make their own baby ones.
They would both look around for the perfect spot to build their tower and then collect rocks around the spot and construct their tower.

We all made it to the arch and Sup thought it was so cool to be high on the rock and see the big rock behind him. Thomas on the other hand not being a fan of heights was not so impressed.

Since we walked all the way to see the arch and Sup was so excited to see it we walked down to it to get our picture with it and touch the base. Sup thought it was the coolest thing and didn't want to leave the big rock. We finally did wave bye bye to the big rock and headed back down the trail.
We were all impressed with the boys making the hike. Thomas walked the whole way with an exception of a small hill at the end of the trail that he was carried just 2-3 minutes, not at all bad for a 4 year old. Sup walked a good portion up and back and I carried him for the last 20 minutes. It took us about 3 hours to hike but we had a great time.
