Mammoth Cave

After the rock shop we headed over to Mammoth Cave. We were hoping to catch an early tour so we would get home a a decent hour.
The boys were very excited to go into the cave. I was a little concerned with the hike because it was 2 miles and hours but they did really great. We had a to a few minutes for our tour to start, and thankfully they waited patiently :)

When we headed to the cave you could feel the coolness right as you entered. We were happy that we had brought some long sleeves for the boys so they were not too cold. I was thinking that Thomas may not have done well with the dark, but they had lights along the trail so he did very well with it.

A lot of our pictures were pretty dark because we were inside the cave and the night setting doesn't work well without a tripod. We did the best we could and did come out with some that were not completely dark.

This was really cool, it was the bottom of the cave what we walked on. We had to be a little careful because some of it was wet and was pretty slippery.

It was amazing how well the boys did on the tour, I may add better them some of the adults. There were quite a few steps to climb out of the cave and while some were huffing and puffing Thomas would run right past them.
There was a point in the cave before we started our ascent that we sat on some benches and listened to some of the history. They wanted to show us how dark and quiet the cave was. So they asked everyone to turn off all lights/cameras and to be quiet. Then they hit the switch for the lights in the cave and it went completely dark. It was one of those darks where you put your hand right in front of your face and couldn't see it. After a few moments of complete dark and quiet Thomas says to me in a loud voice "Mommy why is it so dark? Why can't I see anything?" This got a laugh out of all (about 75) the other hikers and they turned the lights back on. It was nice that it was dark so not everyone knew it was my kid, except the people who were around us.
